Speaker 4 Empathise, whatever.
Speaker 2 And then be like, But listen, I really need you guys to prepare. I feel like today none of you came prepared. You didn’t know the songs. I tried to give you clear chord charts. I tried to give you clear direction.
Speaker 1 I tried to write everything out. Am I not being clear?
Speaker 2 No, you’re being clear. Okay, well, then I really want you to understand that this is important. This is worship to God. This is whatever. And share all that and be like, I really want you guys to take this seriously. And if you want to be on this team, you need to take this seriously and the Lord deserves it. And we’re helping people connect with him through these songs. I really want you to start preparing. And if you can’t commit to that, then just tell me and say, Michael, I don’t think I should be on the team in this season because I can’t actually commit to what you’re asking for.
Speaker 1 If you said that, and then you followed up later that night with a text and just be like, Hey, guys, I so appreciate you.
Speaker 2 Thanks for listening to me. I just want to reiterate what That’s how I would approach that situation.
Speaker 1 I guarantee you at least two out of the four kids would turn around, would turn their course of action and start to step up. I just want to encourage all of us to really step into that leadership role. Don’t passively, aggressively make a comment, but just genuinely, lovingly lead them to what they need to do, and you will start to see better fruit. The really hard fact, I don’t say this to make you feel bad, but just for all of us, the really hard fact is we We get what we allow. If we’re not happy with our current state of whatever it is in our life, it’s because we allowed that to be the case. Now, there are certain things that are outside forces, like the Holocaust, people coming and ripping you out of your house and killing you. You can’t control that. But in things that we oversee, the state of it is what we’ve allowed. It’s just an exhortation for all of us to level up our leadership and be like, All right, how do I get something better out of this group?
Speaker 2 Let me make you feel better.
Speaker 3 It’s not just the youth who come unprepared. Sometimes the adults come unprepared as well. I’m never shy about telling them, and I try to do it in a very tactful way, but I try to do it very diplomatically and ask them questions so they can tell me, Yeah, we’re not prepared. But it comes to a point where I’m doing them a disservice by not being kind to them versus being nice. There’s a difference between being kind and being nice. Being nice is, I don’t want to upset you, so I’m just going to go with it. Being kind is letting our brothers and sisters know when they were missing the mark of bringing excellence towards Christ. I always put it back on Christ. Are you giving God your best when you showed up tonight? Making sure they know that in a manner. Then when they come in the next time and they got it, I celebrate it big time. Thank you for getting here because my goal is to get you out of here to get through the stuff in hour, hour, 15 minutes, including a devotion. When I do that, I celebrate the fact that I was only able to do this because you came prepared.
Speaker 2 Yeah, man, I love that phrase. There’s a difference between being kind and nice. Oh, that’s so good. It’s actually kind to tell people, Hey, I want you to grow in this area.
Speaker 1 That’s like, yeah.
Speaker 2 That’s why I like you, Mark.
