Word salad. One of our presidential candidates is being accused of using  word salad. What is word salad? It’s when you say   a whole bunch of fancy words that mean absolutely nothing.  And the truth is, I have been guilty of that as a worship leader, and you probably have been guilty of that as well. How many times have you got on stage    and you’re like, I want to say something deep and profound and insightful and impactful and really encourage the church and inspire them to worship.  And then you get on stage, you open your mouth, and what comes out?

Blah, blah, blah, blah.  Nothing really good. And they’re confused, and you’re confused, and you’re just like, Can I get an amen? And can we move on from this moment? Yes, that’s happened to me. Yes, it’s probably happened to you. Can you relate? If so, leave a comment. But, we can do better.

And I’m going to tell you exactly how to do better. And that is   to let the word of God speak for you.  You don’t have to be clever. You just have to get up there and let God’s word speak for you. And there are three ways that you can do that, that I’m going to share in this video.

But before I share those, just think,   my Word is weak. God’s Word is powerful.  God’s Word is the thing that cuts through the confusion of people’s lives. 10, 000 of my best words can’t even equate to one of God’s piercing and powerful words. We need to    take the pressure off our own shoulders  to be clever or insightful or deep or thoughtful or well spoken. And we just need to open the Bible and read it for our people. Now there are three ways that you can avoid word salad and let God’s words speak more clearly in your services.

For The first is through our songs.  There are so many worship songs out there that are word salad.

They say a whole bunch of Christianese phrases that are completely unrelated to each other and you really don’t know what the song is saying. You know it sounds Christian like this phrase and that phrase, but like, what is the song actually saying? Worship leader, we should avoid such songs.

Pick songs that are clear and cutting and precise and  full of biblical language.  Avoid those songs that are too vague or full of metaphor or simile, , just sing the word of God as much as possible. And try to find songs that say    one thing Well  just like a great sermon says one thing really well find songs that have that same center point through them from start to finish Sing better songs. That’s the first way you can avoid word salad in your services

The second way you can avoid word salad is by praying the Word of God.  Pray God’s Word over your people. And that means that you, dear worship leader, and I, we need to be still. in God’s word. We need to be daily eating and feasting on God’s word,  meditating on it through the week so that when we get up on stage and we open our mouths to pray,   God’s word tumbles off our tongue.

It should be so ingrained and intertwined with our normal thoughts that when we think of something, Scripture is what we pray, and then that scripture leads us to another scripture that comes to mind.

And as we’re praying, God’s bringing these passages to mind, and they’re coming out, and we’re   praying God’s Word over His church  that is a very powerful way to pray, and it eliminates a lot of the confusion. And if you need help with your prayers,    start by writing them out. It’s okay to write them out,  and then , Read them, but read them with passion and with power and authority.

Don’t just read them rotely. But pray the word of God. That’s the second way to avoid word salad

And the third way to avoid word salad is by   opening your services with scripture.  Yes, welcome the church. Yes, acknowledge them. Yes, say, hey, good to see you guys.

Let’s stand together. And then   read the word  there’s a worship leader that I’m training right now. And he said how should I start service? I said take the weight off your shoulders and just read the Word of God that’s not a cop out, you guys. That is like the best thing you can do. In fact, in the academy, one of our students, all he did is he changed his service start by reading Scripture instead of just starting with the first song. He said immediately he saw more engagement from his people.

And that is because   biblical worship is always revelation first, then response.  The more you can reveal Christ through his Word, the more people respond. passionately in praise. That is, it’s not a formula, but it’s biblical worship.   Revelation leads to response.  So start your services with scripture.

And if you want, I have  15 done for you scriptures    that you can read to start your services, plus some prayer points and talking points.  And you can grab those below for just two bucks. It’s only two dollars. Or inside the academy, we have over 55 service starting scriptures, and prayer points and talking points that you can use to, , feel confident when you get up there.

You’re not just gonna get up there and fumble and mumble and bumble and do word salad. So those are three ways that you can avoid word salad and have the powerful Word of God pierce people’s hearts and impact their lives.

And I’m going to be doing a video on how to craft a compelling call to worship in the near future, so make sure you subscribe and grab those 15 calls to worship for just two bucks below in the description or the show notes if you’re listening to audio only. But don’t give people your words. Give people God’s word and I’ll see you in the next video or inside the worship ministry training academy. Check it out at worship ministry training. com. God bless.
