Are you looking for an online worship leader training program? Good news!

We are blessed to live in a time where there are plenty of options for worship leaders to receive affordable training online. There are courses, academies, YouTube channels all dedicated to training worship leaders online. But with so many options, which one is right for you?

You’re in luck! In this article, I’ll be breaking down the different worship leader training options online, and helping you pick the right one for your needs.

#1) Worship Ministry Training Academy

We’ll admit we’re biased, but because we created the WMT Academy, we 100% believe in it and have seen it work for hundreds of worship leaders who have joined already!

What is it?

The Academy is an online training platform that provides you with the tools and training you need to build a thriving worship ministry. We have 10 in-depth courses, live monthly training workshops, weekly coaching calls, and an active and encouraging community where you can learn from other worship leaders. We provide you with a step-by step roadmap that will show you what courses to take, and what actions to complete in order to start transforming your ministry into one that is full of health, life, joy, passion, and excellence.

You’ll also get access to some of the best worship leaders in the world through our live podcast interviews and Q&A sessions. This is a program that you can take at your own pace.

Who’s it for?

Any and all worship leaders will benefit from the WMT Academy. We have worship leaders from all over the globe, and at all levels of experience (just starting to multi-decade veterans). We put a lot of emphasis on helping you develop as a pastor, shepherd and leader, and the activities you need to do to build a healthy, happy, high-functioning worship team.

Our course library includes:

  • Theological Foundations
  • Musical Excellence
  • Set Building
  • Team Building
  • Administration
  • Vocal Technique
  • Running Rehearsals
  • Group Communication
  • Increasing Congregational Engagement
  • Healthy Ministry Overview

What is the cost?

The Worship Ministry Training Academy is by far the most affordable on the list, coming in at just $29 per month (or $19 per month if you pay annually).

You can try it for just $1 to get 15 days of full access to see if it’s right for you.

#2) Worship Circle

Worship Circle is a small group based worship training program founded by Todd Fields. Todd was the former worship pastor at North Point Church in Atlanta. Todd connects students with famous worship leaders through monthly Zoom calls. They have 12 small groups led by worship leaders you have likely heard of (Paul Baloche, Kim Walker-Smith, etc). Each month, the small group meets via Zoom, gets led in a time of teaching, and then has discussion and prayer. There is also one additional main teaching session per month, and weekly homework and book reading.

It is semester based, so after your semester is over, you lose access to the training and small group.

Who’s it for?

Worship Circle is probably best for people who don’t care about courses, but are looking mostly for connection and moral support. Or for those who would like to have a monthly relationship with some well-known worship leaders. There are 12 groups, so space is limited, and you must apply and be selected to participate.

What’s it cost?

Tuition for Worship Circle is $299 per month. They do have financial assistance available to varying degrees needed, but you must apply and be approved for it.

#3) Worship Ministry School

Worship Ministry School is founded by Jake Gosselin of Church Front. Jake has a popular YouTube channel and focuses on the practicals of worship leading, with a heavy emphasis on technology and production. Worship Ministry School gives you access to a large course library (~25 courses) on various topics, such as using backing tracks, keyboard software, mixing, video techniques and more. You’ll also get access to live group calls, and if you select their “Accelerator Program” you’ll be able to get 1-on-1 coaching for a premium price.

Who’s it for?

Jake offers a well-rounded program, but with a heavier emphasis on tech and production. So if improving your lighting, audio, and video is your primary focus, Jake’s program is probably best for you. They only work with worship leaders who are a good fit for their program, so you have to apply, book a strategy call, and they will help you decide which package is right for you.

What’s it cost?

Pricing is not visible on their website, so you must go through a strategy call to find out the pricing. From what we’ve gathered online, the cost is likely around $600 for their basic program, and upwards of $2,800 for their “Accelerator Program”.

So which worship ministry training program is right for you?

It depends. As you can see, each program has a specific emphasis and unique angle.

If you’re looking to learn or improve the foundational elements of your worship ministry (strength of your sets, engagement from your congregation, health of your team) at a very affordable price, then go with Worship Ministry Training Academy.  If you’re looking for moral support and relational connection, then go with Worship Circle. If you’re interested in production and tech, and have the budget, then go with Worship Ministry School.

Whatever you decide, the best thing you can do as a worship leader, is invest in yourself. When you get better as a leader, everybody wins.
